SEOUL, KOREA – Hancom Inc acquires Software Imaging Technology LTd., a leading British software company mainly engaged in the mobile printing. Software Imaging Technology is the world’s No. 1 in terms of global market share in the mobile printing sector.
Hancom said on Wednesday it has signed a contract to buy 300,000 shares, or 100% of Software Imaging Technology LTd. Software Imaging Technology owns software that ensures high-quality printing of all kinds of documents, ranging from photos, email and web pages, regardless of printer type.
Hancom said the latest acquisition would help it secure the basic technologies for printing solutions that are suitable for the mobile and cloud environments. Hancom also expected its absorption of a 20-year-old British company to strengthen its overseas marketing. Hancom last year purchased EzPhoto (a developer of photo editing software) in a bid to buttress its digital imaging business. Building on its core competencies, Hancom aims to evolve into a global total software company by obtaining new software technologies.

한컴, 모바일 프린팅 SW 업체 英 `소프트웨어 이미징` 인수
한글과컴퓨터(대표 이홍구)가 영국의 모바일 프린팅 소프트웨어(SW) 선두업체 `소프트웨어 이미징`을 인수해 디지털 이미지 사업을 강화한다. 오피스 분야를 넘어 종합 SW업체로 거듭난다는 의지다.
한컴은 모바일 프린팅 분야 세계 점유율 1위 업체인 소프트웨어 이미징의 지분 100%를 인수하는 계약을 맺었다고 10일 밝혔다. 소프트웨어 이미징은 사진•이메일•웹페이지와 다양한 형식의 문서를 프린터 종류에 관계없이 고품질로 인쇄할 수 있는 SW 기술을 보유하고 있다.
한컴은 이번 인수로 모바일, 클라우드 환경에 적합한 프린팅 솔루션 기반기술을 확보했다고 평가했다. 20년 업력의 영국 업체를 인수한 만큼 해외 영업력 강화도 가능할 것으로 기대했다. 앞으로 네트워크 기반의 협업 기술을 개발해 교육기관과 기업에서 활용할 수 있는 차세대 SW를 개발하는 등 새로운 수익모델을 창출한다는 목표다.
한컴은 지난해 사진 편집 SW업체 이지포토를 인수하는 등 디지털 이미지 사업을 계속 강화하고 있다. 핵심역량을 기반으로 새로운 SW 기술을 확보해 글로벌 종합 SW기업으로 도약한다는 목표다.
이홍구 한컴 대표는 “오피스 분야에서의 성공에 안주하지 않고 주력사업과 연관해 시장•고객•제품군을 확장할 수 있는 신규 사업을 끊임없이 발굴하고 있다”며 “기술 중심의 사업 인수와 자체 개발 역량 강화에 최선을 다할 것”이라고 말했다.
