SEOUL, KOREA - The size of the local big data market is expected to post KRW 1 trillion in 2020.
Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) is estimating, in its ‘KISTI Market Report’ released on the 18th, that the local big data market would reach KRW 300 billion in sales in 2015, accounting for 1.6% of the global big data market. And the Institute is also expecting the portion the big data sector takes out of the local ICT-related industry would go up from 0.6% in 2013 to 2.6% in 2020.
The report says that affordable price is the key factor for local companies to compete with major foreign rivals in the big data market. Since the end of last year, local companies have released relevant products.
Many of the related SMEs are working together to build cooperative relations among themselves. Taking an example of such a move is a big data solution forum (BIGSF) which has been established by SMEs interested in the market.
“As the local big data market is expected to continue to grow, taking a considerable portion of the domestic ICT market, the government is required to come up with measures to foster the big data industry. Public supports should be made as the sector is possibly used to address various social issues and applied to science and technology,” says a source from KISTI.

오는 2020년 국내 빅데이터 시장 규모가 894만달러(약 1조원)에 달할 것으로 전망됐다.
한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI)이 18일 발표한 `KISTI 마켓 리포트`에 따르면 국내 빅데이터 시장 규모는 단기적으로 2015년 약 263만달러(한화 3000억원)에 달해 세계 빅데이터 시장의 약 1.6%의 비중을 점유할 것으로 예측했다.
국내 정보통신기술(ICT)관련 산업에서 빅데이터 분야가 차지하는 비중은 2013년 0.6%에서 지속적으로 증가해 2020년에는 약 2.6%로 높아질 것으로 예상했다.
보고서는 주요 해외 기업이 빅데이터 시장을 주도하고 있는 환경에서 국내 기업이 가격을 핵심 경쟁력으로 설정해 지난해 하반기부터 올해 상반기에 걸쳐 본격적인 제품을 출시할 것으로 내다봤다. 센솔로지, 아크원소프트, 알테어, 야인소프트, 에스엠투네트웍스, SK텔레콤, 위세아이텍, 엔에프랩, 카디날정보기술 등이 대표적이다.
특히 최근에는 빅데이터 관련 중소기업이 연합해 빅데이터솔루션포럼(BIGSF)을 구성하는 등 빅데이터 협업 생태계 구현에 나서고 있다.
KISTI 관계자는 “국내 빅데이터 시장이 지속적으로 성장해 국내 ICT 시장에서 차지하는 비중이 커질 것으로 예상되는 만큼 빅데이터 산업을 육성할 수 있는 정책적 환경 조성이 필요하다”며 “다양한 사회 문제 해결과 과학기술분야에도 적용될 가능성이 큰 만큼 공공정책적 관점에서의 지원도 병행돼야 한다”고 말했다.
