SEOUL, KOREA – Emphasis has been put on a better UI/UX and expanded connectivity. Global smart device producers, including Samsung Electronics, Siemens and Phillips, set a new trend for the global smart device industry at the IFA 2013 Global Press Conference in Italy – a press preview of the upcoming IFA 2013, slated for September 6 through 11 in Berlin.
Participating companies, including Samsung Electronics, Siemens, Panasonic, Phillips, Miele and Electrolux, showcased a slew of their strategic product lineups, which can be summed up in two words: “Easy Operation and Connectivity.” Amid design and operation methods being simplified for better user experineces, smartphones and smart pads were freely connected to other white goods.
Bosch-Siemens Hausgeraete (BSH), the joint venture of Germany's Robert Bosch and Siemens, put on display a new washing machine and a refrigerator that interoperate with smart devices. Once a tag attached to some clothes is scanned by a scan app downloaded onto the smart device, the washing machine suggests the most suitable washing course.
For instance, the smart washing machine informs the user of proper detergent and appropriate water temperatures. Meanwhile, the smart refrigerator suggests dishes that can be made from the food stuff stored in it. Besides, when the user shops at a grocery store, it allows the user to check what is left in the refrigerator via smart devices - a function which was already introduced by Samsung and LG electronics’ premium refrigerators.
Samsung Electronics demonstrated the Samsung smart TV’s voice and motion recognition features. When the demonstrator said Steven Spielberg's films to the smart TV, a list of his five films popped up on the monitor.
Amsterdam-based TP Vision, the joint venture between Phillips and British smart TV solution provider TPV, unveiled a Wi-Fi enabled smart TV that sports “connected entertainment.” Philips, which is losing ground in the flat TV market, put forward the "cloud-based connected TV” card to redeem the lost ground.
Market researcher Gfk said a more convenient UX (user experience) & connectivity is becoming one of consumers’ basic demands.
