SEOUL, KOREA - Uno & Company, a company engaged in the manufacture of wig fibers and chemicals, will establish a local manufacturing plant in South Africa, the first such occasion among companies in the same industry.
The company said on May 6 it would purchase a building (6,000 square meter) in a 24,000-square-meter site at 13 million South African rand (US$1.44 million) from a local company Eagle Furniture.
Once the renovation job on the building is completed, the company will begin production of wig products by the second half of the year. Its main items will include polyvinyl chloride (PVC) wig fibers and tangle-free fibers. The first-year output will be 95 tons a month, which will rise up to 200 tons by next year.
African customers purchase 95 percent of wigs produced in the world. Even though there are scores of wig manufacturers setting up shop in African countries, it is the first time for a wig fibers company to establish a manufacturing plant within the continent.
