SEOUL, KOREA - Korea Zinc, Korea's major non-ferrous metal smelting company, will build a large-scale non-ferrous metal smelting plant at the cost of 328 billion won. With the new capacity expansion, the Korea will be able to increase its annual production capacity to 430,000 tons from current 300,000 tons.
Of the 130,000 tons of increase, zinc will account for 27,000 tons, gold 32,000 tons, silver 829 tons, and copper 4,300 tons. The company expects that it will raise its sales revenue and gross profit by 1.14 trillion won and 220 billion won, respectively.
Choi Moon-sun, analyst with Korea Investment Holdings, said, "The figures announced by the company are based on an assumption that the current non-ferrous metal prices are lower than the current market prices. If you plug higher market prices into rises in production volume, you get a sales revenue of 1.32 trillion won, 19.9 percent higher than the company-supplied figure."
"As for the gross profit, it would be 253 billion won, accounting for about 30 percent of 837.4 billion won of gross profit the company made last year," he added.
