SEOUL, KOREA - The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China said on May 13 that Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have recalled as many as 175,000 vehicles for defects in brake switches and other parts.

The models to be recalled include 121,835 units of the ix35 (Tucson ix in Korea) manufactured between April 9, 2010 and October 6, 2011 and 53,897 units of the Sportage produced from July 8, 2010 to October 15, 2011 by Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor, a local joint venture established in partnership with Dongfeng Motor and Yueda.

According to company sources, the defects may lead to an improper working of the brake lights when stepping on the brake. Hyundai and Kia will replace the parts free of charge to all owners of the models.
