SEOUL, KOREA - Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Korea Southern Power said on June 3 that they signed a agreement to jointly run the barge-mounted power plant business.
A barge-mounted power plant is a mobile combined-cycle power plant capable of being moved as needed by a barge. It has an advantage of minimizing opposition of residents concerned about pollution while reducing power supply disruptions when replacing obsolete power plants.
The two companies will accelerate their effort to move overseas, especially in rural areas in Southeast Asia, by combining the offshore facility construction capabilities of DSME and the power plant operation abilities of Korea Southern.
A DSME official said, "Barge-mounted power plants are an ideal area for us to take full advantage of our know-how and experience accumulated thus far from building ships."
