SEOUL, KOREA - Robert Bosch Korea, the Korean unit of the Bosch Group of Germany, will produce the gasoline direct injection device from this year. The device injects highly pressurized gasoline directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder, thereby improving fuel efficiency and output.
Since ending the relationship with a joint venture Hyundai Kefico last year, Robert Bosch Korea has expanded capacity in its Daejeon plant. Robert Bosch Korea president Hermann Kaess said in an event celebrating the expansion on June 4, "We will produce 6 million GDIs a year from this year by investing 104.9 euros (about 154 billion won)."
Since February this year, the Daejeon plant has been producing GDIs for Hyundai Avante, Kia K3, and other sub-compact models. Starting next week, the plant will run the second production line to churn out GDIs for larger models such as Equus and Genesis.
