SEOUL, KOREA - According to the trade on the 9th, LG Display had formed a task force named ‘Tear-Down Revolution (TDR)’ to review its involvement in G2 TSP. Its original target was the smartpad market, but as the demand for TSPs for PCs sharply increased, the display maker changed its plan. LG Display recently promoted TDR from a task force to an official team and started to search for partners for the production of G2 TSP.

Until the last year, the proportions of notebooks and desktops that came with TSP were mere 2% and %, respectively, but the situation completely changed this year. Intel adopted TSP as the standard specification for its 3rd generation ultrabook to be launched in the second half this year. The market size of new breed of PCs, such as convertible PCs and all-in-one PCs are growing.

According to the market research firms, including IHS, the proportions of notebooks and desktops coming with TSPs are expected to shoot up to 13% and 14%, respectively, this year. The market further expected that the figures will increase to 40% and 39% in 2016, respectively. Until now, the TSP market was mainly for the small-sized devices, such as smartphones and smartpads, but once the larger screens are converted to TSP, the size of TSP market will exponentially grow.

A TSP industry insider commented, “unlike the TSPs for smart devices, the TSPs for PCs can be standardized, making it much favorable to the display makers. Once the economy of scale is achieved, the price of 12 inch TSP will drop to more than half of what it used to cost last year, about $60 to 70.”
