SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics has more than doubled its market share in the global tablet computer market in just one year. According to U.S. market research firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung Electronics sold 9.1 million units of tablet computing devices worldwide in the first quarter of this year. This figure is up 355 percent compared to 2 million units a year ago.
Samsung Electronics' market share also rose sharply. Its tablet computer market share stood at 18.9 percent in the first quarter of this year, a 2.5-fold increase from 7.6 percent a year ago. Its ranks remain No. 2 in the global tablet computer market.
Apple maintained its top spot with sales of 19.5 million units, up 65 percent from 11.8 million units a year ago. Its market share, however, fell by 4.4 percentage points to 40.4 percent. ASUS was positioned at No. 3 with sales of 2.9 million units or a market share of 6.1 percent, followed by Amazon with 1.9 million units or a 4-percent market share.
