SEOUL, KOREA - Renault Samsung announced on June 18 that it started exporting SM5 Platinum Taxi to Singapore. This is the second time for Renault Samsung to export its vehicles for use as taxi cabs. In 2011, Renault Samsung sold its vehicles for use as taxis to Macao.
SM5 Taxi will be exported under the name of "Latitude" with a Renault emblem on them. Unlike the specs of existing SM5 Taxi, it will have a steering wheel on the right side and a 2-liter diesel engine.
In April 2013, Renault Samsung signed an agreement with Singaporean importer Wearnes Automotive to supply 1,275 taxis. Wearnes Automotive will supply the SM5 taxis to Trans Cab, the No. 2 taxi company in Singapore. By the end of this month, Renault Samsung will complete the first shipment of 302 units.
To make entry into Singapore's taxi market, Renault Samsung made a variety of special efforts and decided final specs and features through discussion with local companies.
