SEOUL, KOREA - LTE-A service that is two times faster than LTE, is likely to be commercialized at the end of this month. The consumers who use the service would be able to download an 8-MB movie within 43 seconds.
Samsung Electronics plans to provide an LTE-A network-compatible Galaxy S4 handset to telecom companies at the end of this month. Unlike the existing Galaxy S4 that is mounted with the Exynos5 Octa chip, the LTE-A compatible Galaxy S4 will use Qualcomm's SnapDragon 800 chip.
Samsung Electronics recently completed the authorization of a frequency band for LTE-A compatible Galaxy S4 with the National Radio Research Agency. This is the world's first LTE-A handset.
LTE-A handsets will be supplied first to SK Telecom which plans to commercialize LTE-A service starting from the metropolitan areas from late this month. LG U+ also plans to launch the same service within July at the latest.
