SEOUL, KOREA - POSCO, Korea's largest steel maker, was selected as the most competitive steel maker in the world for four consecutive years. The company said on June 19 that it was cited as the most competitive steel maker by World Steel Dynamics, the global steel information service provider, at its 28th Steel Success Strategies Conference held on the 18th at New York's Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel.
The assessment was made in 23 categories, including technology, profitability, cost reduction, price competitiveness, and financial soundness. POSCO earned the highest score of 7.73 points out of 10.
Following POSCO, Russia's Severstal (7.46 points) and Nucor (7.28) of the U.S. were ranked second and third. Other steel makers such as NLMK of Russia, JSW Steel of India, Gerdau of Brazil, and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. of Japan were ranked within the top-ten list. Meanwhile, ArcelorMittal, the world's largest steel maker in terms of crude steel output, stopped short of taking the 26th spot.
