Seoul, Korea - Ministry of Science, ICT & Future Planning (MSIP) and Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) held the Mobile Weapon System RTOS Development Result Demonstration at Hyundai Rotem Technology Lab in Euiwang on the 20th and tested the Korean-made Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) by applying it to an actual tank.
The localization of RTOS was sponsored by the World-Best Software (WBS) Project of MSIP and developed jointly by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Hyundai Rotem, MDS Technology, and other participants.
At the demonstration, the Korean RTOS completed the 1,000 and more loops of Hardware-in-the-Loop-Simulation (HILS), subjecting the automatic shell loader. The Korean RTOS was found to boot twice as fast as the foreign ones in a performance comparison test. The real-time feature was as good as those of foreign RTOS. DAPA has selected the Korean RTOS for Maneuvering as the second stage project for civil-military cooperative technology research.
When the Korean-made RTOS for Maneuvering is applied to the operational weapons system, the localization of weapons system software is expected to be accelerated. The development of aviation RTOS under the WBS project is to be completed by the end of this year, and Software Flagship project had been carried out to be applied to T-50, a Korean-made UAV.

실시간 운용체계(RTOS)의 국산화가 현실로 다가왔다. 이르면 내년 초에는 100% 외산에 의존하고 있는 무기체계 소프트웨어(SW)의 국산화에 청신호가 켜졌다.
20일 미래창조과학부와 방위사업청은 의왕시 현대로템기술연구소에서 `기동무기용 RTOS 개발결과 보고회`를 열고 전차에 국산 RTOS를 적용하는 실제 테스트를 진행했다.
국산 RTOS는 미래부 월드베스트소프트웨어(WBS) 사업 지원을 받아 한국전자통신연구원(ETRI), 현대로템, MDS테크놀로지 등이 참여해 개발했다.
국산 RTOS는 이날 전차의 포탄 자동장전장치를 대상으로 1000회 이상의 `하드웨어 인롭 시뮬레이션(HILS)` 시험을 성공적으로 완료했다. 외산 RTOS와 성능비교 시험도 수행, 외산보다 부팅 시간이 2배 빠른 것으로 나타났다. 실시간 성능도 외산에 비해 떨어지지 않았다.
방사청은 국산 기동용 RTOS를 실제 전차에 적용하기 위해 2단계 시업으로 민군협력 기술적용 연구과제로 선정했다. 올해 하반기부터는 차량제어 장치에 대한 기술적용과 평가를 수행한다.
국산 기동용 RTOS가 실제 무기체계에 적용되면, 향후 무기체계 SW 국산화에 탄력을 받게 될 전망이다. WBS 사업으로 개발 중인 항공기용 국산 RTOS도 올해 말이면 완료된다. 국산 무인항공기인 T-50에 적용하기 위해 항공기 컴퓨터시스템 국산화 사업인 `SW 플래그십` 사업도 진행한 바 있다.
안창용 미래부 SW융합과장은 “외산 무기체계 SW 사용으로 매년 고가의 라이선스와 로열티를 지불하고 있다”며 “국산 RTOS 개발로 불필요한 비용을 줄일 수 있을 것”이라고 말했다. 이성남 방사청 대령은 “민간서 개발된 SW를 무기체계에 적용하기 위해 예산을 지속적으로 확보, 시설과 장비를 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
