SEOUL, KOREA- KakaoTalk's desktop PC version shot up to No. 2 in PC messenger market in just ten days after being released. A market research firm Ranky.com conducted a survey on the PC messenger usage patterns of 60,000 panels.
During the fourth week of June (from June 23 to 29), KakaoTalk PC grabbed a market share of 13.8 percent, ranking No. 2 among PC messengers.
In the previous week before the service was officially launched (June 16-22), KakaoTalk PC had a market share of 2.6 percent, ranking No. 4 among PC messengers. During the short period of a week, its market share rose by 11.2 percentage points, with its ranks among PC messengers rising to No. 2.
During the corresponding period, the market share of other PC messengers, including NateOn (No. 1), Skype, My People, and Naver Line, all declined. On the fourth week of June, NateOn's market share stood at 71.5 percent, down 8.8 percentage points from 80.3 percent a week ago.
