Seoul, Korea - LG U+ and Ericsson are going to jointly develop LTE-A and new technology going beyond 4G. The vice chairman of LG U+ visited the head office of Ericsson in Sweden and signed an MOU for the joint research and development of LTE-A and beyond 4G technologies in preparations for technology evolution in the future. The details of MOU between the two companies include developing technologies: to enhance the cooperation among base stations to improve the speed by minimizing radio wave interference; to expand the coverage of small-sized base stations in collaboration with macro base stations with larger coverage; and for soft-cell development to improve data quality and speed by distinguishing base stations exchanging control signals from those sending and receiving actual traffics. The two companies agreed to have a broad collaboration for LTE-A communication equipment as well as next generation ICT market related to health care, M2M, manufacturing, energy, TV and media. “The joint R&D with Ericsson will further solidify the cooperation between us”, “We are sure that the cooperation will generate a successful result and thereby will provide global standards, not only for LTE-A, but also beyond 4G technology”, said Lee Sang Cheol of LG U+. The Vice President also visited the head office of Nokia Siemens Networks in Finland, and discussed the future direction of LTE-A evolution.
LG유플러스-에릭슨, "LTE-A와 비욘드 4G 신기술 공동개발"
LG유플러스가 에릭슨과 롱텀에벌루션 어드밴스트(LTE-A), 비욘드 4G 신기술을 함께 개발한다.
이상철 LG유플러스 부회장은 11일 스웨덴 스톡홀름에 위치한 에릭슨 본사를 방문해 한스 베스트베리 에릭슨 CEO와 최고경영자 미팅을 갖고 LTE-A 협력 강화와 비욘드 4G 신기술 개발 협약(MOU)을 교환했다.
LG유플러스와 에릭슨은 LTE-A와 4G 이후 기술 진화에 대비한 연구개발(R&D)을 공동 진행하기로 합의했다.
양사는 △기지국 간 전파간섭을 최소화해 속도를 향상시킬 수 있는 기지국 간 협력 기술 △커버리지가 큰 매크로 기지국과 커버리지가 작은 소형 기지국들이 협력해 소형 기지국의 커버리지를 확대하는 셀 간 간섭제어 기술 △신호 제어를 주고받는 기지국과 실제 트래픽을 송수신하는 기지국을 구분해 데이터 품질과 속도를 향상시키는 기술인 소프트셀 개발에서 상호 협력해 나갈 방침이다.
LTE-A 통신장비뿐만 아니라 헬스케어, M2M(사물통신), 제조, 물류, 에너지, TV와 미디어 등 차세대 ICT와 시장에 대해 광범위한 협력도 논의했다.
이상철 LG유플러스 부회장은 “이번 에릭슨과 R&D 공동 진행으로 더욱 단단한 협력 관계를 이루게 됐다”며 “양사 간 협력모델이 성공적으로 결실을 맺어 LTE-A뿐만 아니라 비욘드 4G에서도 글로벌 스탠더드를 제시할 것”이라고 말했다.
한편 이 부회장은 이번 유럽 출장에서 핀란드 헬싱키에 위치한 노키아지멘스네트웍스 본사를 방문해 스몰셀을 활용한 용량 증설 방안, 네트워크·단말 품질 빅데이터 수집기술, 네트워크 성능과 가입자 경험 간 시뮬레이션 기술 등 LTE-A 진화방향에 대해 논의했다.
