SEOUL, KOREA – NHN Corp., South Korea's biggest Internet portal operator, said Tuesday that two-year-old messaging application Line has more than 200 million registered users around the world.
Launched in June 2011 by Japan-based Line, Line broke the 150 million mark in the number of users in April and attracted an additional 50 million in just three months.
Line, an app that supports messaging and voice over Internet Protocol calling and is well known for character-driven emoticons, initially developed a huge following in Asian countries including Japan, but has been branching out to other regions, including Spain, India, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia.

`라인` 가입자가 2억명을 넘었다.
NHN은 계열사 라인주식회사의 모바일 메신저 `라인`이 출시 25개월 만에 세계 가입자 2억명을 돌파했다고 23일 밝혔다.
2011년 6월 출시돼 지난 4월 가입자 1억5000만명을 확보했으며 석달 만에 다시 회원 5000만명을 추가했다.
일본과 동남아시아에서 폭발적 인기를 끄는 가운데 스페인 등 유럽과 브라질•멕시코•콜롬비아 등 남미에서도 사용자가 늘고 있다. 최근 인도에서도 마케팅을 본격화하며 가입자를 쓸어 담고 있다.
라인은 앞으로도 세계 각국에서 현지 맞춤형 공식 계정 및 스티커 현지화를 적극 진행해 성장세를 이어간다는 계획이다.
