SEOUL, KOREA- Hyundai Dymos Inc., a Hyundai Motor Group company specializing in auto parts and upholstery, will build a plant for car seats in the U.S. state of Georgia. The group said on August 23 that Hyundai Dymos would invest up to US$35 million for a new plant near its sister company Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. in West Point, creating 350 local jobs.

All the output produced in the plant will be supplied to the Kia Motors plant while some of it would be delivered to the Hyundai Montgomery, Alabama, plant in the future. The decision, it was reported, was made just before Hyundai Motor chairman Chung Mong-koo met Georgia governor Nathan Deal in Seoul on the 21st.

Hyundai Dymos' move is expected to trigger a wave of investments by Hyundai and Kia affiliates, which are under siege from labor strife and declining productivity. The state government of Georgia, meanwhile, is offering a generous package of incentives including tax cuts, free job training, and road and railroad construction.
