According to auto industry sources on October 27, the two companies have sold a total of 5,524,000 cars for the first nine months of the year. Based on figures compiled by U.S. auto market research firm LMC Automotive, Hyundai and Kia accounted for 8.8 percent of the global market of 62,566,000 cars. This is 0.2 percentage point higher than last year's 8.6 percent, with Hyundai taking a 5.5-percent share (3.45 million cars) and Kia responsible for a 3.3-percent share (2.07 million).
The two car makers plan to raise the global share to over 9 percent by introducing a number of new models by the year's end. Kia Motors has just unveiled the All-New Soul while Hyundai Motor will launch the New Genesis and Grandeur Hybrid by the end of the year.
