SEOUL, KOREA - Lee Suk-Chae, KT chairman who was under investigation by the Prosecutor's Office for professional negligence, paid a visit to Rwanda to participate in the Transform Africa Summit 2013, the first overseas trip since the search-and-seizure warrant has been issued. He visited on October 27 the KT office in the Rwandan capital Kigali and met KT officials there.
Mr. Lee will join the four-day Transform Africa Summit meeting between October 28 and 31 to be held in Kigali. Sponsored jointly by KT and the Rwandan government, the event will be attended by the summits of 12 African nations as well as high-ranking officials of the International Telecommunication Union and the World Bank to discuss ways to develop African economies through the active use of ICT tools.
The chairman will meet in the conference dignitaries including Rwandan President Paul Kagame, 12 African summits, international organization executives, as well as executives of international corporations.
Currently Korea's largest telecom company is seeking partnerships in Africa. Recently the company sent three "IT Supporters" volunteers to Rwanda as part of a CSR program to support IT initiatives in low-income neighborhoods. IT Supporters is a program that KT has run since 2007. But this is the first time for the company to send volunteers on a long-term basis.
