SEOUL, KOREA- Samsung Electronics is savoring an unrivaled position in the global smartphone and mobile phone markets, while LG Electronics is enjoying the highest growth among major players. These two Korean companies are virtually playing a leading role in the global smartphone and mobile phone markets.According to U.S. market research firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung Electronics sold 120.1 million mobile phones in the third quarter of this year, grabbing a share of 28.7 percent in the global mobile phone market.

This figure is about twice higher than that of Nokia which sold 64.6 million units during the same period, and four times more than Apple’s 33.8 million units. Even in the smartphone market, Samsung Electronics occupied the top spot with sales of 88.4 million units, with its market share estimated at 35.2 percent.

LG Electronics ranked No. 1 in terms of growth rate. It sold 12 million smartphones during the third quarter, up 71.4 percent from 7 million a year ago. LG’s growth was higher than the annual growth of Lenovo and Huawei which are estimated at 68.8 percent and 67.1 percent, respectively.
