SK Engineering & Construction said on November 6 that it won an order to modernize an oil refinery in Ecuador. The US$230-million project calls for rehabilitating the Esmeraldas oil refinery located in the same-name coastal city in northwestern Ecuador by December 2015.
Commissioned by the nation's state-run oil company Petroecuador, the latest project has been the fourth order for SK E&C for the same refinery since 2009 when it won the order to repair the fluid catalytic cracking facility. Afterward, the company engaged in subsequent three projects to build oil refining facilities, utility systems, and waste water processing plants.
Lee Eun-seop, SK E&C principal project director for the Esmeraldas plant, said, "We could win four projects in a row based on trust we earned from the commissioning entity. This time too we will do our best to complete the project within the deadline based on our technical and organizational excellence."
The company said this is a meaningful milestone to diversify its market range. During the second half of the year, the company won a series of new orders from overseas markets, in such countries as Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand.
