SEOUL, KOREA - 2014 is the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Korea. To commemorate, the Embassy of Denmark, Seoul held a logo design contest in August 2013 under the theme of ‘Creative Partners, the 55th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations. The contest gathered much interest as was evident by the fact that over 200 logos were submitted from all over the world, including countries such as Denmark and France.
At the press event held on January 14th at the Embassy, H.E. Ambassador Peter Lysholt Hansen stated that 2014 is a new chapter for the ‘Creative Partnership’ between Denmark and Korea for increased cooperation and exchange. As the judge of the contest, he said a logo was chosen that showed the characteristics of Danish design: simplicity, elegance, timelessness, and functionality.
The designer of the winning logo is Mr. Lee Kyurag(36), who works at the Seoul National University School of Art. He is the proud winner of the 2 million won cash prize and can look forward to his logo used by 16 brands currently being sold in Korea. Mr. Lee explained that the logo was a symbol of “unity, increased cooperation and exchange between the two countries” as well as a visual representation of the “focus on the two countries and their future together”.
Representatives of Denmark Milk, Flexa, Jabra, Kjeldsens Butter Cookies, Morsoe, and Royal Copenhagen were present at the event to display limited editions goods and packaging using the 55th anniversary logo. 10 more brands will incorporate the logo in their goods, packaging, or promotional material in 2014. They are Bang Bang Copenhagen, Carl Hansen & Son, Danish Design, Fleye, Fritz Hansen, Leander, Madam Stoltz, Novo Nordisk Pharma, Oticon, and Shoe the Bear.
