Display Industry's New Center -- Chungnam

Chungcheongnam-do, Republic of Korea, is running toward a central place in the world display industry. By maintaining a steady pace of growth since the middle of the 1990s, Chungcheongnam-do's display industry has shown 13.9% of the display manufacturer distribution, compared with to the rest of the country as of 2006 and approximately 35% of display total production at home, accounting for 49.8% of the national display export amount (export US$8billion).

In conjunction with this, Governor Lee Wan-koo, Chungcheongnam-do said: "To expand the location for the purpose of the world display industry's center in Chungnam the city is forming the largest display production in the world, consisting of 9 complexes of 11.946 million square meters." In addition, Chungnam is building Chungnam Display Industry Support Center of 18,019 square meters, by investing 47.2 billion won ($51.42 million) for the sake of constructing the core stronghold of display related company's R&D as well as commercialization, according to Lee.

This Display Center is supporting associated company's technology development by constructing 43 kinds of equipment, such as precision measurement equipment, superprecision processing equipment and others. Governor Lee also said: "To spearhead display component material assessments, as well as certification globally, Chungnam's discussions are under way with MOCIE (the Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Energy) to construct the 'International Display Assessment/Certification Center' which can carry out international certification and assessment functions in Display Centers with a view to the year 2012."

Provided this certification center operates in earnest, he said that Chungnam is expected to be able to strike root as a suzerain centre of the world display industry. For the purpose of display industry's second leap, Chungnam is creating a display industry for nurturing a synergy by constructing an organic cooperation relation with display companies by means of the MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) to carry out an environment assessment, analysis and certification joint research between Samsung Electronics, Chungcheongnam-do, and the Chungnam Display Center.

In connection with CVCE's globalization, Lee says: "Chungcheongnam-do is constructing a standing to spearhead domestic the display industry not only from a quantitative standpoint, but also in terms of quality." In step with such domestic display industry's standing boosting, Chungnam is holding the Crystal Valley Conference & Exhibition, under the joint auspices of large companies and small & medium-sized companies such as Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDI, display differentiation universities such as Hoseo University, laboratories such as ETRI, and a local autonomous entity such as Chungcheongnam-do, Cheonan, and Asan City.

Lee said that the CVCE, meeting its 3rd Anniversary, will boast a variety of conferences . with the latest technology presentations from the best scholars in the world, industrial exhibitions, and a job fair, propelling Chungnam, as a hub of world display. It should also help Korea's brand image, giving it a timely international boost, as an information exchange venue such as new technology and market movement. There will also be new product development marketing strengthening and component material activation inducement included amongst major projects.

Governor Lee also said that through the analyzed community economy ripple effect from the 2006 CVCE Exhibition there were production induction effects of up to 7.1 billion won, employment induction effects of 500 million won, income induction increases of 1 billion won, and an indirect tax induction effect of 300 million won."

In order to develop the CVCE as a worldwide display EXPO since 2010, Lee committed himself to unfolding aggressive activities for constructing an exhibition space infrastructure by teaming up with Cheonan as well as Asan.
