SEOUL, KOREA - Korea Midland Power Co. said on March 16 that it held a completion ceremony for a gas-fueled combined cycle power plant in the Navanakorn Industrial Zone, in Thailand's central Pathum Thani Province. This is the first time for a Korean power plant operator to set foot in the Southeast Asian country's gas power plant business.
It cost a total of 218.1 billion won for the 110-megawatt power plant to be built. Navanakorn Electric Company Ltd. and Toyo-Thai Corporation Public Company Ltd. have participated in the projects as partners. Korea Midland Power invested 16.6 billion won in 2012 with a 29-percent stake in the project.
Commissioned by the Thai government, the project will be led by private companies which will own the properties and assume operating responsibility. A Korea Midland Power official said, "As the operators signed a 25-year long-term contract with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand for the supply of electric power, we are assured of a steady stream of profit."
