SEOUL, KOREA - POSCO Engineering & Construction said on April 6 that it held an opening ceremony for Sections Nos. A2 and A3 for the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Highway connecting the capital Hanoi with the northwest region bordering the province of Yunnan in China. The highway is one of the most important projects in developing the Mekong Delta region initiated by the Asian Development Bank.

 

 

The 244-kilometer highway is expected to make material contributions to increasing trade with neighboring countries in the Vietnamese north. In the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang, country director of Asia Development Bank in Vietnam Tomoyuki Kimura, Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Jeon Dae-ju, as well as POSCO E&C global marketing division head Cho Gyu-jin and POSCO E&C Southeast Asia business group head Park Shi-sung were in attendance.

 

Earlier in 2009, the company won the project to build three sections (81 km) out of eight. It succeeded in opening the A1 section in late December last year, followed this time by the opening of the A2 (all 22-km interval) and A3 (partial opening of the 31-km interval) sections.

 

In addition to the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Highway, the contractor working on other road construction projects in Vietnam including the Ho Chi Minh City-Dau Giay Expressway and the Vinh Phuc-Me Linh road. Since establishing a local corporation and office in Vietnam in 1995, POSCO E&C has actively pursued business in Vietnam and adjacent countries such as Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.
