SEOUL, KOREA - Daewoo Engineering & Construction said on April 22 that it won a project worth US$352 million to build a subway line in Singapore. Awarded by the Singaporean Land Transport Authority, the project calls for building a 3.2-kilometer section of the Thomson Line passing through the Stevens station and 2.93 kilometers of a tunnel for the length of 66 months.

 

Singapore is one of the most important construction markets in Southeast Asia with so many top contractors of the world competing to get orders. The subway project bidding was also crowded with a number of world-class builders from China and Singapore.

 

Daewoo E&C official said, "The section we took on is one of the most complicated projects in the Thomson Line as it includes a transfer station in downtown. We earned high points for suggesting a construction method that would minimize noise and resident complaints while saving cost."

 

Since moving into the Singaporean market in 2012 after a hiatus, Daewoo E&C has won five architectural orders in two years and now landed a large public works project.
