MILPITAS, CA - Sigma Designs® (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for home entertainment, control, connectivity and converging multimedia delivery, has launched its latest RF transceiver module, the ZM5101 into volume production. The ZM5101 is a cornerstone of Sigma Designs' 500 Series family of short range, narrow-band transceivers, which represent the latest evolution of the award-winning Z-Wave® communications standard.

The state-of-the-art ZM5101 SoC provides a fully compliant ITU-T G.9959 communications protocol stack, combined with 256kB of flash memory, 16kB SRAM and an 8 bit microcontroller. The ZM5101 has set a new industry benchmark for low-power operation, and is ideal for short range, narrow-band RF communications. The ZM5101 is the flagship product of Sigma Designs' 500 Series line up. It offers the smallest footprint in the industry with the maximum GPIO count, on-board AES 128-bit security engine, a learning IR engine with 128 key keyscan controller, and full speed USB support. The module is an ideal platform for smart devices, IoT applications, and IR/RF controls.

"Sigma Designs' 500 Series family of low-cost, high-performance RF communications platforms will set new industry standards in ease-of-use, level of integration, power economy and RF performance," said Raoul Wijgergangs, Vice President of Sigma Designs' Z-Wave Business Line. "The Z-Wave communications standard is already adopted by over 250 companies and found in over 1000 different interoperable wireless control products worldwide. We expect that the 500 Series family of Z-Wave SoC's, including the recently launched ZM5101, will be extremely well-received throughout the many markets that span Home Control and the Internet of Things."

"We are very excited to see this new RF transceiver platform come to market," said Mark Walters, Chairman of the Z-Wave Alliance. "The ZM5101 makes it very easy and cost effective to build Z-Wave products with rich features such as IR, keypads, lots of I/O, USB and the complete set of Z-Wave Plus protocol enhancements. The ZM5101 complements the other excellent platforms in the 500 Series family from Sigma Designs."

Now in volume production, the ZM5101 supports all regional frequencies and modes of operation for Z-Wave worldwide, and is pin-to-pin compatible with its predecessor, the ZM4101. The ZM5101 provides hardware-assisted frequency agility, which enables the module to switch away from a noisy communications channel without incurring overhead in either communication or software. The extremely low sleep current of the ZM501 effectively doubles battery life of smart devices relative to its already industry leading Z-Wave predecessors, opening new possibilities in IoT deployments.
