SEOUL, KOREA - LG Display reportedhigher-than-expected results for the third quarter of this year, backed byApple’s releasing of larger-screen iPhone 6.LG Display saw its third-quarteroperating profit jump by 191 percent compared to a quarter ago, remainingprofitable for ten straight quarters.
The company announcedon October 22 that it posted sales of 6.54 trillion won and operating profitsof 474.1 billion won for the third quarter of this year.
Sales rose 9 percentfrom a quarter ago but similar to those of a year ago. Operating profit jumped191 percent compared to a quarter ago and up 22 percent year on year.
Analysts predicted 6.60trillion won and 356.6 billion won for LG Display’s third-quarter sales andoperating profit. Its operating profit exceeded the market consensus, althoughits sales fell behind it.
Key factors behind itsstrong results include the increase in shipments of display for largesmartphones. Apple released larger-screen iPhone 6 in September, whichcontributed to improving the performance of LG Display, a display supplier forApple.
