Seoul Korea - The sales of sport sutility vehicles (SUV) reached an all-time high in the January-November period of this year, passing the 300,000 mark.The SUV sales of Korea’s five major car makers totaled 300,475 units in the first eleven months of this year,exceeding the previous full-year record of 297,594 units set in 2002.
In a situation where the demand for SUVs is growing steadily along with the expansion of leisure activities, including camping, major car makers are releasing a string of brand-new models, widening the scope of options for consumers.
After peaking at 297,594 units in 2002, SUV sales declined steadily thereafter, falling to 168,520 unit sin 2008.In 2009, however, SUV sales rebounded to 224,623 units thanks to the popularity of compact SUVs, including the Tucson ix.
Backed by the release of the new Santa Fe and the fever of leisure activities, SUV sales exceeded the 250,000 mark in 2012 and expanded to 290,722 units last year.
