Samsung Electronicsplans to terminate its mobile messenger ChatOn service in February 2015. This move is in line with its effort to liquidate less competitive businesses and focus its resources on profitable ones.
The company announced on December 19, “We decided to terminate the ChatOn service at 9 am of February 1, 2015 (Korean time).”The official added, “The discontinuation of the Chat On service is to better cope with the fast-changing market trend and to place more focus on platform-based services in the areas of health and mobile commerce.”
Samsung launch the Chat On service in October 2011 to mount it on its smartphones. This was part of its effort to cope with the rapid expansion of the mobile messenger market.
