Line, a Japanese subsidiary of Naver, the largest Internet portal in Korea, announced on January7 that it kick-started the “Line Taxi” service in Tokyo. This service allows users to call a taxi by using the Line smartphone app. Line Taxi enables users to call a taxi through the Line app without the need to install an external app.
The Line Taxi app user can hire a taxi cab by typing in the location information by using the GPS feature on the Line app. Line Taxi users can pay by using Line’s payment system“Line Pay.”The Line Taxi service is available with about 3,340 taxis run by a local taxi company in Tokyo.
Once the coverage of the service is expanded toward the entire region of Japan, the number of taxis compatible with the service will likely to expand up to 23,000. Line Taxi service for the entire region of Japan is expected to be launched soon.
