LG Display signed a cross-licensing agreement with U.S.-based OLED materials pioneer Universal Display Corp. on January 26. By using Universal Display’s high-quality OLED materials and device structures, LG Display will strengthen its TV OLED and flexible OLED studies, product development and production.
This agreement will clear the way for Universal Display to acquire global clients. The Ewing (New Jersey)-based company will supply high-performance OLED materials to LG Display, while promoting joint technological development. Universal Display Corp., founded in 1994, has more than 3,300 OLED-related patents.
The mutual cooperation is expected to pave the way for the two parties to create strong synergies and strengthen their leadership role in the global OLED market. Previously in 2007, the two parties had jointly developed the world’s first 4-inch full-color flexible OLED.
