China’s major TV makers saw the sales growth of their flagship models slow down last year. According to market research firm DisplaySearch on January 28, Skyworth, one of China’s six major TV manufacturers, saw its TV sales in China grow merely by about 1 percent last year.
Another Chinese TV maker TCL suffered a 3.5-percent decline in LCD TV sales to 16.57 million units. TCL’s sales in China fell 14 percent last year from the previous year. DisplaySearch predicted that China’s major TV makers would focus on OEM or ODM production for the time being.
Korea’s major TV makers—Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics—faced difficulties in the fourth quarter of last year due to the overall slump of the TV market. They, however, are expected to have posted a stable growth of about 5 percent in TV sales last year.
Samsung Electronics sold 48.37 million units for the first nine months of last year and is expected to pass the 50-million mark in annual TV sales for the first time in its history.
