Samsung Electronics and Apple are compiled to have sold the same amount of smartphones in the fourth quarter of last year. According to U.S. market research firm Strategy Analytics on January 29, the two companies each sold 74.5 million units of smartphones during the fourth quarter of last year.
This was the first time for the two companies to be in a tie in smartphone sales. Samsung suffered a decline by 11.5 million units in its smartphone sales from 86 million units during the same period a year ago, while Apple enjoyed a solid growth by 23.5 million units.
In a conference call held on January 29, Samsung revealed that it sold 95 million mobile phones in the fourth quarter, adding that smartphones accounted for more than 75 percent in total mobile phone sales without giving figures in detail.
Following Samsung and Apple were Lenovo and Motorola each with 24.7 million units and Huawei with 24.1 million units. LG Electronics were slipped out of the top-five ranking.
