The Incheon Metropolitan City Government has named five recipient companies of the 2009 Incheon IT Technology Award after a thorough examination by a group of prominent experts, Incheon Information Technology Industry Promotion Agency (IITPA) said.
The award was officially launched in 2003 to nurture globally competitive IT companies in the city.
This year, a total of 21 companies applied for the fields of Information Technology (IT) and Business Intelligence (BI), leading to a stiff 1 to 4 competition ratio. In particular, export-strong companies fared well in the race.
The highest IT award granted by Incheon City Mayor was given to a multi-layer display, made by Kortek Corporation. The two second highest awards went to Passive Intermodulation Distortion (PIMD) measurement device of Ace Wave Tech Co., Ltd. and a remote meter reading system of Leo Tech Co., Ltd.
The first prize winner of BI was JMD Engineering's Marvel Shop, a three dimensional automatic steel frame program, and the second prize was grabbed by semiconductor chip used for automatic highway payment systems (which is called Hi-Pass in Korea), produced by Hyundai Digitech ITS Co., LTD.
Kortek enjoyed US$100 million of exports last year with the special display, and the record is expected to reach US$120 million in 2009. Ace Wave Tech concluded a US$6 million worth of contract with a US-based company to export the measurement device. The second BI award winner Hyundai Digitech ITS is also expected to crank up semiconductor exports to China and lead the Hi-Pass market there.
The awarding ceremony will take place at Songdo Convensia, Incheon’s world class convention center, on Aug. 2 along with the opening ceremony for the Incheon International Information Technology Communication 2009 (ITC2009), an international IT exhibition. The five winning companies will install their promotion booths in the venue throughout the exhibition period. IITPA said it would focus on the promotion and marketing of the award winning companies to nurture them as Incheon's leading IT enterprises.
