Exploded LG G3 mobile phone Battery and the user’s burned hands

On February 16, an article was posted in an online community with the title saying ‘ My mobile phone(e.g., Smartphone) exploded,’ and it gained much attention.

On the posting, the user said, “G3 Cat.6, LG Electronics’ flagship, exploded so badly that my hands were burned and the battery was totally crushed beyond recognition.”

He also claims, “The explosion was occurred in my room. I tried to throw it away since I was too panicked, but it was too hot to take so I put it on the floor and poured water from the fridge instead. As a result, I got burned in hands and the floor of my room also got damaged.”

LG Electronics struggled in the smartphone business for long time but recently is getting close to the record sales of G3 model up to 10 million. In this circumstance, this explosion has raised safety issues among other consumers.

The accident in Korea was just about isolated battery, but the explosion, happened abroad, occurred in the battery combined with the G3 Smartphone, making other G3 users nervous.

Actually, U.S. social news website(www.reddit.com) released a report with several pictures describing the device in question was apparently charging in bed when its battery combusted, quickly burning a hole through the mattress.

The writer with his nickname of s-blade said, “LG Electronics’ G3 smartphone, which my sister uses, suddenly exploded, and the fire caught the mattress. It is hard to extinguish the flame, so I threw it away from the window.” He also shared a handful of photos, including exploded battery and burned mattress.”

He noted, “The battery and charger came directly from LG. The phone was not under the bed sheet or blanket, but it was being charged in bed.”

Other smartphone manufacturers also use lithium ion batteries like LG Electronics, although recent series of explosion only happened in LG Electronics’ G3, which casts doubt on the technical skills of LG Electronics.

The victim of explosion describes an incident in which LG Electronics dropped home to ensure that no one can severely get hurt and compensated the exploded battery expressing their apology while collecting the remains.
