Prof. Kim Ki-bum of Seoul National University on Aug. 26 said his research team had developed a "nanopore ion transistor," which can be used for interpreting DNA sequencing results and controling biomolecules.

With this latest development it will be possible to mass-produce an ion transistor that can selectively control ion currents through nanopores. The new ion transistor with 1-2nm nanopores was developed using electron beam lithography and atomic layer deposition for a structure of 100 nm membranes.
