The Korea Database Agency (KODB) will hold the 2015 Korea-China Data Business Day, with a view to providing Korean developers of data solutions with opportunities to make forays into the Chinese market.

On May 5, the KODB signed MoUs with the Shanghai Academy of Science and Technology (SAST) and the Shanghai Industrial Technology Institute (SITI) to help Korean solution developers make inroads into the Chinese market. The KODB says it will hold the 2015 Korea-China Data Business Day in Shanghai on May 20 -21.

The 2015 Korea-China Data Business Day will be attended by nearly 100 Chinese customers and partners at the request of the Korea Data Industry Association and approximately 10 Korean database companies, including WareValley, Encore, Altibase, Cubrid, WiSe i Tech, Saltlux, Databank Systems and Banet Information and Technology.

The first day of the 2015 Korea-China Data Business Day event will feature presentations on data technologies and projects (related to DBMS, security, big data analytics) in the morning and one-on-one business meetings between Korean database companies and Chinese customers and partners in the afternoon.

Field trips to Shanghai’s major IT industrial sites (such as Shanghai Pudong Software Park, Wanda Information, Shanghai Sea Route Information Engineering are scheduled for the second day of the event.

The reason why the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) of S. Korea and the KODB have been keen on reinforcing Korea-China data cooperation is because they judged that China’s efforts to diversify away from solutions developed by global IT titans, like IBM and Oracle, would eventually pave the way for Korean database developers’ entry into the Chinese market.

For the past three years, the MSIP and the KODB, along with the Korea Data Industry Association, have maintained technology partnerships with Tsinghua University and Harbin Engineering University. Under the technology partnerships, they have donated Korean data solutions to Tsinghua University and Harbin Engineering University and run regular classes to teach students how to use Korean data solutions. They also held Korea-China Database Technology Cooperation Forum on two occasions, thus continuing brisk exchanges between the two nations.

“The 2015 Korea-China Database Day will serve as a catalyst for spreading “Data Hallyu.” Above all, one-on-one business meetings will take place at the event to facilitate direct data exchanges between the two nations,” said Seo Kang-soo, president of the KODB.

Meanwhile, the 2015 Korea-China Database Day is organized by the KODB, the Korea Data Industry Association, the Shanghai Academy of Science and Technology and the Shanghai Industrial Technology Institute and is sponsored by Shanghai Pudong Software Park, the Shanghai Association for Computing Machinery and the Shanghai Big Data Industry Alliance for Technological Innovation Strategies.
