SK Telecom today announced that it has been awarded with two awards at the Small Cell Industry Awards 2015 for four consecutive years.
Held in London, UK, the Small Cell Industry Awards* is the world’s most prestigious award in the field of small cells. This year, SK Telecom’s Smart HetNet Solutions became the winner of the “Excellence in commercial deployment (Urban)” category, which recognizes the most effective/innovative/creative deployment of small cell technologies and solutions in urban areas. The company was also selected as the winner of the “Judge’s Choice” award, which is awarded by the panel of judges in recognition of excellence within the industry.
SK Telecom’s Smart HetNet Solutions include eICIC, RF Reconfigurable Femto, Centralized SON, and High Capacity Public Femto.
Earlier this year, the company has commercialized eICIC (enhanced Inter Cell Interference Coordination), a technology that reduces inter-cell interference between macro-cells and small-cells, for the first time in the world. It also successfully commercialized RF Reconfigurable Femto, which can analyze signals transmitted from macro cells to choose a radio frequency that is least affected by interference, in July 2014. Moreover, SK Telecom has already applied C-SON (Centralized Self Organizing Network) to its commercial networks to coordinate and orchestrate optimal settings; and doubled the capacity of its public femtocells to accommodate up to 64 simultaneous users.
SK Telecom has been focusing on the development and deployment of innovative LTE small cell technologies and solutions. Since 2012, the company has won the Small Cell Industry Awards for four consecutive years, recognized for its efforts and achievements in this field.
