Samsung Electronics’ Hunger Marketing Pays off

The Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Edition was auctioned at a huge price in China. Samsung Electronics released the Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Edition with a limited run of 1,000 units on May 27.

China’s online shopping mall JD.com, or Jingdong Mall, held an auction for the Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Edition on June 11. It was auctioned at the price of 101.86 million won, about 100 times higher than the retail price of 1.19 million won in Korea.

The edition has a serial number of 66. The Chinese people have special attachment to this number as they regard it as a lucky number.

Samsung launched the pre-order sales of the special edition in Korea at 10 am of May 27. The 1,000 units of the Iron Man Edition were sold out within just one day.

Samsung plans to release the limited edition in ten more countries, including China and Hong Kong. In other words, the company will step up its hunger marketing in overseas markets, meaning launch of special editions with a limited number of products so that consumers vie to get one.
