SK Hynix will supply the 64-gigabyte DRAM module to the world’s No. 1 server company for the first time in the world.
The demand for 64-GB DRAMs is growing rapidly today as the server capacity expands along with the advent of the big data era. The global market size is expected to grow to about US$10 billion by 2019.
According to industry sources on June 15, SK Hynix inked a deal to supply 64-GB DDR4 DRAM modules to the world’s largest server maker with a global market share of about 25 percent. SK Hynix, accordingly, has become the world’s first company to supply 64-GB DRAM modules to the company.
According to market research firm IHS, the size of the global server DRAM module market is forecast to grow to $13.1 billion in 2019 from this year’s $8.2 billion. The share of 64 GB-plus modules will likely to increase up to 70.8 percent from 3.4 percent during the same period. The market size of the 64 GB-plus large-capacity modules is expected to expand up to $9.3 billion in 2019 from $280 million in 2015.
