Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors reported a 3-percent growth in their combined U.S. sales last month. In the first half of this year, Kia Motors reported higher sales growth than Hyundai Motor.
According to industry sources on July 2, Hyundai Motor Group sold 121,639 cars in the United States last month, up 3.0 percent from a year ago. Hyundai Motor marked a 0.1-percent growth to 67,502 units, while Kia Motors enjoyed a 6.9-percent growth to 54,137 units.
For the January-June period of this year, their combined American sales reached 682,102 units, up 3.1 percent year on year. Hyundai Motor recorded a 1.8-percent growth to 371,150 units and Kia Motors posted a growth of 4.6 percent to 310,952 units.
The overall U.S. car sales grew 3.9 percent last month to 1,476,472 units, boosted by low oil prices and the popularity of SUVs and pickup trucks. For the first half of this year, the U.S. car market grew 4.4 percent to 8.52 million units, raising expectations that the annual sales would exceed the 17-million mark this year, first time since 2001.
