“Made in Korea” batteries are enjoying a dominant presence in the global energy storage system battery market.
According to a report on the ESS batteries published recently by global market research firm Navigant Research, LG Chem achieved a score of 84 points, ranking No. 1 among the global ESS makers, followed by Samsung SDI with 83.5 points.
Navigant Research carried out the evaluation on ESS makers, with focus on two categories including strategy and execution. LG Chem gained a score of 86.3 in strategy and 81.8 in execution, ranking No. 1 for two straight years. In 2013, the company achieved a score of 87.0.
Samsung SDI fell behind LG Chem in strategy with 85.0, but exceeded LG Chem in execution with 82.0.
China’s lithium ion battery maker BYD was positioned at No. 3 with 72.9, followed by Kokam (Korea) with 71.2, Japan’s Toshiba with 69.0, Panasonic with 69.0, Hitachi with 63.7, Saft with 63.1, Sony with 55.8, and Lishen with 52.8.
