The 11th International Semiconductor Exhibition (i-SEDEX), the nation's biggest semiconductor exhibition, will be held at KINTEX, Gyeonggi Province on Oct. 13-16 under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy.

A total of 145 domestic and foreign companies from seven countries, including ALVAC of Japan and Atmel and Yarde Metals of the United States, are to participate in the international event, with the attendance of some 20,000 visitors.

ALVAC is the world's No. 1 sputtering equipment maker, and Atmel is the world's second biggest company in EEPROM.

Participants will show off their advanced semiconductor products at the global event in the device, design, equipment and material sectors, displaying their high technology level, a ministry spokesman said.

In particular, 4Gb mobile DRAM developed based on 54 nano-2Gb for the first time in the world, the world's first 44-nano DDR3 DRAM product, 0.18 micron-class complex BCDMOS, CMOS image sensor (CIS) and Photo Track, will be displayed at the international show.

A variety of side events, including an export consultation meeting for overseas buyers, an international seminar and a technology seminar, will be held during the event period.

In particular, an export consultation hall was established to help Korea's small and medium-sized semiconductor equipment and material makers advance into overseas markets.

Some 50 local semiconductor equipment and material makers will invite about 20 foreign company executives in charge of the purchase of goods to the hall for export consultation from October 14.

About 10 technology seminars and exchange meetings for interchanges of technology and information between technicians in the semiconductor industry will be arranged during the exhibition period, the spokesman said.

Semiconductor makers expect the international event to promote cooperation for purchase of goods between domestic suppliers and purchasers, discover excellent locally-made products, including devices, equipment and materials, and increase exports of Korean new products.

The 11th i-SEDEX, hosted by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, is jointly managed by Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Korea Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA) and Consortium of Semiconductor Advanced Research (COSAR).

The international event, sponsored by Dongbu Hitek, Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Fairchild Korea Semiconductor, and Hynix Semiconductor, is also supported by Vacuum Research Association (KOVRA), Semiconductor Equipment Technology Education Center (SETEC), and International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS), he said.

On the occasion of the hosting of 11th i-SEDEX, Kwon Oh-hyun, chairman of KSIA, said, "Visitors to the event can experience high technology products of semiconductor-related industries and the IT & electronics industries that are leading the future of the digital world."

Noting that i-SEDEX has given ever-wider publicity both domestically and overseas to Korea, the most powerful country of the semiconductor, and has fostered an exchange of products and high technologies related to semiconductors since the first exhibition held in 1999. He said, "The semiconductor exhibition has grown along with the rapid development of Korea's semiconductor industry."

The nation's semiconductor industry has experienced an annual average of 20 percent growth as a result of the innovative and vigorous participation of domestic and overseas semiconductor companies, and i-SEDEX has actively evolved into a worldwide general semiconductor exhibition.

Commenting that the 11th i-SEDEX was reborn with a new vision and appearance, Kwon said, "It will showcase high tech products and technologies such as high value-added system ICs, foundry equipment and materials, and many other advanced semiconductor technologies, including next-generation memory semiconductors.

"In addition, i-SEDEX 2009 will establish itself as the first and best general exhibition where one can experience various products and high technologies of future prosperous industries such as solar semiconductors, future cars, next-generation mobile products, providing participants with useful information and the unique opportunity for technical exchanges."

Kwon, also CEO of Samsung Electronics, said, "The international scope of i-SEDEX 2009 is especially clear as it was cooperatively opened with KES, IMID and others to get abreast of world-famous exhibitions in the electronics and IT fields, including CES and CeBIT.

"Accordingly, it is expected that people in a wide variety of electronics and IT business sectors, as well as representatives from semiconductor industries worldwide, will eagerly visit Korea for i-SEDEX 2009. We expect this event will provide an unparalleled opportunity for participants to promote product publicity and sales."

He also said that KSIA aims to raise the visitor satisfaction as well as that of participants in the exhibition through various accompanying events such as seminars on semiconductor technologies and market prospects, counseling meetings about purchases with worldwide semiconductor device companies and other relevant events.

Saying that the association's careful preparations are designed to ensure a great festival of the whole semiconductor industry, Kwon stated, "I am confident that visitors to this event will find valuable opportunities to increase understanding of the world semiconductor market and its technologies and strengthen friendly relationships with their customers."
