39 local consumers recently filed a class action against German car maker Volkswagen for its emission scam. The attorney for the plaintiffs said during the press briefing on Monday, "We took legal action against sales agencies of Volkswagen Group and Audi Volkswagen Korea for the emission scam."
The defendants include local corporate bodies of Volkswagen and Audi along with car dealers.
The second lawsuit came as there were around 1,000 inquiries following the first suit, and 500 customers sent lawsuit files, according to the lawyers.
“For the consumers, who are willing to take part in the suit but have not prepared documents, we are planning to take extra legal action," the law firm Barun said, adding "The number of problem cars sold here stands at around 120,000. If only 10 percent of them participate in the lawsuit, that will still be around 12,000," the lawyer said.
The firm also said “German headquarters of Volkswagen and Audi admitted the problem and said it would recall the cars. As they are certain to have environmental violation and a fraudulent act for consumers, the plaintiffs are highly likely to win the cases."
