Samsung Electronics said the number of subscribers for its mobile payment service "Samsung Pay" hit 1 million within two months since its launch in the local market.
The company said the number of daily use hit 100,000, the accumulated subscribers surpassed 1 million and the accumulated payment amount posted more than 100 billion won.
The users have steadily risen along with the firm's new flagship products Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+. More than half the buyers of Galaxy Note5 subscribed to Samsung Pay.
According to the analysis of the main places used, the mobile payment service has been used for buying daily goods in convenience stores, supermarkets and department stores. With the increasing number of subscribers, the accumulated payment amount hit 100 billion won and daily payment amount surged to 2 billion won from initial 700 to 800 million won, according to Samsung.
Samsung Electronics is also set to add membership card management and transportation function to the service within this year.
Samsung Pay was launched at the end of September in the U.S. market. With local mobile carrier Verizon taking part in the business from this month, the service is also set to expand in the U.S. market.
