The Seoul High Court extended the period of CJ Group Chairman Lee Jay-hyun's custody suspension in the lead-up to his trial, according to multiple local media outlets on Wednesday.
Accordingly, his custody suspension will be extended four months to March of next year.
The judge said, "Considering Lee's medical certificate and medical record, we decided to suspend his confinement."
In July of 2013, the chairman was indicted for causing a damage of 39.2 billion won to his company in the process of buying his own property in Japan. He was sentenced to four years in jail in the first trial and three years in the second trial, but the Supreme Court returned the case to the Seoul High Court in September, ordering it to reassess Lee’s malpractice charge over the property in Japan. His final trial will be held on Dec.15.
