South Korean builder Samsung C&T said November 23 that it has clinched a $840 million deal to construct transportation infrastructure in Australia.
Under the deal, Samsung C&T will take part in the construction of a 9-kilometer section of Sydney’s WestConnex motorway project commissioned by the New South Wales state government.
The deal Samsung C&T signed with the New South Wales government accounts for 33 percent of the second stage (worth $2.8 billion) of the WestConnex motorway project. Construction will be complete by the end of 2019.
The three-stage WestConnex motorway project is aimed at building a 33-kilometer-long road that links the heart of Sydney to the state's southwestern region.
In June 2014, Samsung C&T bagged $680 million deal for the first stage of the WestConnex motorway project.
The South Korea builder said its global competitiveness proven through its participation in the Roy Hill project and partnerships with Australian companies played a significant role in Samsung C&T joining the WestConnex motorway project.
