It is expected that ETRI will witness 5G technologies and services at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics as an interim exhibition of Giga KOREA R&D — many of which will be used for commercialization of 5G technologies and services after 2020.

The ultimate goal of the Giga KOREA project is to provide customers with a hyper-connected 5G mobile network that facilitates massive gigabyte-content interactions on super multiview or digital holographic display screens. People will be able to experience tentative futuristic tele-experience services, such as immersive hyper-realistic services.

Technologies for 5G networks, devices, contents, and platforms will be converged to implement tele-experience services. This will be the instigator for nationwide change, which will percolate the whole of society — from the individual to small and large businesses, right to the heart of government. Society will adopt futuristic services, tele-experience, into its future plans, which will hopefully lead to a smart industrial revolution.

This special issue will focus on the recent advances made in studies relating to 5G mobile telecommunication technologies, digital holographic technologies, interactive super multiview 3D displays, Giga media–based tele-experience-service SW platforms, and super-realistic interactive content technologies, including all ecosystems of tele-experience life.

ETRI welcome submission of papers that present emerging new technologies that can be applied to real products and thus lead to new business opportunities. ETRI encourage the submission of papers that include the presentation of an implemented prototype that will provide readers with a better understanding of new technology and techniques in relation to existing research.
Papers to be submitted should focus on 5G Mobile Telecommunication Technologies, SW Platform technologies, Digital Holographic Technologies, Super Multi-view(SMV) Device technologies and Content Technologies. The submission deadline is March 31, 2016.Publication is scheduled for the December 2016 issue.
